Dropping connection? How to
stabilize it?

Zigbee is convenient and energy-efficient, but its stability heavily depends on radio conditions and correct configuration. If your devices don't respond, have delays, or suddenly "drop" from the network, it is very often not due to faulty hardware, but a bad radio environment, network conflicts, or incorrect configuration. See what most often degrades the range and stability of a Zigbee network.

Why does Zigbee stop working?

Interference

๐Ÿ“ถ Zigbee and Wi-Fi conflict on 2.4 GHz

Wi-Fi routers and Zigbee devices use the same 2.4 GHz band. If they operate on overlapping channels, a strong Wi-Fi signal can degrade the stability of the Zigbee network. Choosing a possibly collision-free channel is one of the basic steps to improve performance.

Hardware

๐Ÿ”Œ The USB 3.0 port trap

If the Zigbee coordinator is plugged directly into a USB 3.0 port on a terminal, computer, or Raspberry Pi, it can cause interference and degrade the range. This is a common cause of instability. Often, it's enough to use a USB 2.0 extension cable and move the coordinator away from the device.

Mesh

๐Ÿ•ธ๏ธ Weak network backbone

Zigbee operates as a mesh network. Battery-powered devices, such as motion sensors or thermometers, usually do not forward the signal. Therefore, for stable operation throughout the house, you also need permanently powered devices, such as smart plugs or some light bulbs. They help pass the signal further and improve the network range.

Remote support

Having issues with Zigbee stability? I can help diagnose it.

I will remotely check your ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT configuration, network map, connection quality, and common causes of problems on the system side.

If necessary, I will also ask you to do simple additional measurements on your end, for example using a phone or laptop with Wi-Fi, to better assess channels, interference, and the radio environment.

Not every problem can be solved online, but after the analysis, you will know exactly what to improve. If needed, I will also help with a safe system reconfiguration, and you will make the hardware changes yourself following specific instructions.
